COVID Protocol
As we approach reopening Vitus and welcoming people back for shows, we've been monitoring the COVID situation in New York City and the surrounding areas, especially the rise of the Delta variant, very carefully.
In light of what's happened in recent months, Saint Vitus Bar will be enforcing a vaccination requirement for all shows when we reopen. You must provide proof of full vaccination in order to gain entry to all shows at Vitus for the foreseeable future. Full vaccination means at least 2 weeks after your second dose of either Moderna or Pfizer, or 2 weeks after your first and only dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. We realize that some ticket holders might not be vaccinated or do not plan to. If that is the case you can get your ticket refunded via our ticketing platform Dice. People who do not provide proof of vaccination will not be allowed into the show. What we will accept as proof of vaccination are as follows:
The NY State Excelsior app
The NYC COVID SAFE app
Any other NY State-accepted digital vaccination pass
Your paper CDC vaccination card
Vaccination proof must match your valid ID
We're doing this to minimize the risk to musicians who play here, to the people who work here, to people who come to shows here, and to everyone in their extended networks. We're doing this to safeguard live music and the people who make that happen—including the people in the audience.
We are not currently planning to enforce indoor masking but we do expect that a number of people who attend the show will likely choose to be masked. Everyone is at different levels of comfort right now with attending public events so please be considerate and understanding of people's choices that are around you.
Music venues were the first to close because of the pandemic, and among the last to reopen. Musicians and venues faced tremendous hardship due to the loss of work, and many in the music community were among the first to get sick. We intend to do our part to take care of each other.
While the vaccine works very well to protect people from infection, especially serious illness and hospitalization, there are going to be some breakthrough cases. We also know that due to the particularly high viral load of cases of the Delta variant of COVID, breakthrough infections may be more infectious with the Delta variant. At the time of this writing, the Delta variant accounts for 86% of all new cases in New York City. If you are vaccinated but have tested positive for COVID, please follow all CDC recommendations about quarantining and do not attend the show—and we hope you feel better soon. And if you're vaccinated but you've been exposed to someone who has COVID, we encourage you to get tested—it's just good sense and it keeps you and those around you safer.
If you want to see live music, please get vaccinated. We are not the only venue that will be requiring proof of vaccination for entry. Many already have, and following the announcement by the NYC mayor's office, all venues will be required to ask for proof of vaccination.
As things evolve, we will do our best to keep you all updated if things change. We will also, of course, be adhering to all state & city guidelines. We've missed you all, and look forward to welcoming you back as safely as possible. Thank you to everyone who has already done their part to keep each other safe.
